Student Experience

The way you learn matters just as much as what you learn. As a student—and business leader—you should be able to access coursework, attend classes and build connections in ways that create professional momentum, not disrupt it.

As an online student, you’ll be exposed to intuitive instructional formats, new business cultures and communities, and the diverse professionals who enrich our Carolina community. And you’ll be able to experience those things without relocating, hindering your progress at work or disrupting your responsibilities at home.

"This is more than just an online MBA; it really is a web-enabled classroom. Weekly live class sessions and periodic in-person events provided ample networking opportunities and perfectly blended the distance and in-residence experience."

Brian Ross, Class of 2018
War Game Director, U.S. Navy

New Student Orientation

Before beginning classes, you’ll complete a series of orientation courses to get acquainted with our cutting-edge technology and the UNC Kenan-Flagler community.

In-Person Orientation Weekend:

This optional, on-campus component of your orientation allows you to meet future classmates in person and begin forming valuable personal and professional relationships.

Online Orientation Course:

Conducted through our virtual campus, this self-paced course contains helpful information about the university, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and online learning best practices.

Synchronous Group Training Session:

This 45-minute live, online session takes a deeper dive into the details and functionality of our online campus, providing the necessary information to attend, create, host and record your own live sessions.

Seamless Online Learning

As an online student, you will access coursework, attend classes and connect with classmates and professors through a world-class online learning platform known as 2NC.

2NC—which is accessible via desktop, tablet or mobile app—allows you to complete coursework on your own schedule, no matter where you are or what device you are using. It also prepares you for the realities of an increasingly virtual global economy, where you may be leading, managing or collaborating from a distance.

Live Class Sessions and Features

Weekly class sessions bring students face-to-face with classmates and professors via webcam in an interactive online classroom.

These intimate sessions—all of which are recorded and viewable on demand later—build on the week’s coursework and facilitate engaging discussions. Through real-time feedback and collaboration, you’ll be exposed to a range of perspectives from faculty members and classmates, who bring significant depth and diversity of professional experiences to the classroom.

Using the platform, professors and students can:

  • Utilize interactive tools, such as videos, polls, slides and graphs.
  • Engage in live debates and simulated business interactions.
  • Collaborate in small groups using private “breakout rooms.”
  • Share documents, links, questions and ideas through live chats.
  • Schedule one-on-one office hours with professors.
  • Create a live classroom to host networking events, social groups or study sessions.

Interactive Coursework

Your coursework is accessible 24/7 from the online learning platform. That means you can complete assignments, review concepts or download materials wherever you have an internet connection.

All coursework is created and taught by the same UNC professors who teach on campus. Faculty members work with a team of content producers to turn lectures and assignments into hands-on experiences, including:

Professional video content:

Faculty members bring complex concepts to life using innovative visual techniques, such as role play vignettes or hands-on demonstrations.

Guided video lectures:

Professors record dynamic lectures—brought to life with graphs, images and videos—that students navigate at their own pace.

Online roundtable discussions:

Led by professors or guest speakers, these prerecorded discussions prompt students to answer a specific question about the material and share their answers with classmates.
