CHALLENGE OF HEALTHCARE

2 credit hours

Healthcare is a substantial and growing component of our GDP, with social and political ramifications for individuals, the U.S. economy and global markets. Whether you’re interested in general business topics or specific healthcare issues (e.g., health policy, redesign of healthcare delivery, healthcare administration), the healthcare arena offers enormous opportunity for savvy MBAs and other professionals. This course provides a broad overview of U.S. healthcare from a business perspective. We’ll study the structure and component parts of the healthcare system, including the four Ps of healthcare: providers, payers, producers and patients. We’ll also study care and delivery services, and explore how basic economic issues, public policies, market developments and other issues affect the industry. Through cases, articles and guest speakers, we’ll also examine different aspects of the healthcare value chain.
