MBA@UNC Global Immersion: Chapel Hill Day Three

Consulting Track Semi-Final and Final Presentations

Each consulting track team was tasked with pitching strategies for expanding local organic spirits distillery Top of the Hill’s distribution. Teams were evaluated based on storyline, comprehensiveness, slides (how they look and feel), and delivery by a team of four judges: Dr. Paul Friga, Clinical Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School; Esteban McMahan, Spirit Guide at Top of the Hill Distillery; Steve Beisser, Faculty Advisor for STAR: Student Teams Achieving Results at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School; and Scott Maitland, Founder of Top of the Hill Restaurant & Brewery and Top of the Hill Distillery. With Top of the Hill’s Eight Oak Carolina Whiskey up for grabs as a first place prize, each team delivered a strong, compelling presentation.

The judges were limited to choosing three teams to move on to the final presentation stage. Team six, Red Stapler and the Bobs; team seven, Whiskey Business; and team eight, Batch It Crazy were named finalists.

Each team once again presented to all four judges, delivering unique consulting pitches that received nods of approval from the Top of the Hill Distillery duo. Each team was also asked a series of questions by both Esteban and Scott that required students to think on their feet to address feedback given.

After a short break, Scott announced the first place winner: team seven.
