MBA@UNC Global Immersion: Buenos Aires Day Two

MBA@UNC Global Immersions are offered four times a year as unique opportunities for students to travel to major international business destinations with their fellow classmates, participate in engaging discussions with their professors and elite industry leaders, as well as apply what they have learned to real-life problems they now have the knowledge to effectively overcome. At the Buenos Aires immersion, MBA@UNC students participated in a track focused on navigating the Argentinian market. Throughout the second day, MBA@UNC students interacted with local business students from Buenos Aires to learn about Argentinian culture, as well as participated in a service activity to plant trees in the Pilar Natural Reserve.

Service Activity: Pilar Natural Reserve

Day Two of the MBA@UNC immersion began with a trip to the Pilar Natural Reserve where students met with the mayor, Nicolás Ducoté, and planted trees while observing the local ecosystem.

Session 1: Insightful Global Leadership: Eye on Argentina

In the afternoon, Dr. Mabel Miguel led students through a session focused on the cultural side of doing business in Argentina. A citizen of the world, Professor Miguel is uniquely qualified to lead students on global immersions. Born in Argentina, she has lived in Venezuela, Barbados, France, and Turkey. She currently teaches core leadership and management courses at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

To begin the session, students from a Buenos Aires business school, Universidad Siglo 21, joined UNC Kenan-Flagler students to discuss the differing aspects of American and Argentinian cultures.

After making introductions and getting to know the Argentinian students, small groups broke out to create potential onboarding plans for an American moving to Argentina and an Argentinian moving to America.

The session concluded with a reflection on international cultures and how to assimilate to new environments when doing business on a global scale.

Dinner at Cabaña Las Lilas

To finish off an amazing day, MBA@UNC students gathered at Cabaña Las Lilas to experience a traditional Argentinian steak dinner. Students were able to relax, soak up the sights of the beautiful Puerto Madero riverside neighborhood, and get to know each other better.
