Chicago: June 2013
The theme of the Chicago immersion was “Values-Based Leadership.” Sessions throughout the weekend covered topics such as balancing social value with shareholder value; effectively communicating a shared vision and values; understanding what values drive you; your conflict resolution style versus that of your team/manager; and many others. A second track, “Consulting Frameworks/Case Competition,” was also offered to a limited number of students. This track was a prerequisite for students who wish to register for a STAR project in the coming year. Preference for this track was given to those students who have completed core courses. UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Student Teams Achieving Results program, or STAR, is a hands-on learning program in which students learn by doing as they take on the role of consultants to real companies. STAR student teams build comprehensive and actionable strategies for corporations and not-for-profit organizations seeking to strengthen their competitiveness.
