The annual UNC-Chapel Hill immersion gives students the opportunity to come together with classmates and professors, explore the campus, network with the Tar Heel community and engage in collaborative exercises designed to build both personal and professional relationships.
This year's Immersion featured three tracks for students to choose from:
Leadership Development Track
This track focused heavily on developing personal leadership effectiveness through assessment tools, simulations, personalized Executive Coaching and discussions with thought leaders in the field. Students explored topics such as ethical and moral leadership and executing strategy through people.
Dave Hofmann Professor and Area Chair of Organizational Behavior
Dave Roberts Assistant Professor of Marketing
Jeff Edwards Professor of Organizational Behavior
Sreedhari Desai Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior
Leadership Cornerstone Track
This advanced leadership track included new topics and approaches to developing leadership skills using an interactive, action-based approach. Students participated in guided learning exercises such as Dr. Allison Fragale’s session titled, "Moving on Up: Power and Influence in Organizations."
Mike Christian Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior
Robert Goldberg Founder and Principal of Organization Insight
Alison Fragale Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior
Shawnice Meador Director of Career & Leadership Services for Working Professionals
Led by Professor Paul Friga, the Consulting Track helped students develop the problem analysis framework used in the consulting world and allowed them to apply it immediately during a live case competition. This year, the client was Top of the Hill Distillery, makers of TOPO Organic Spirits in Chapel Hill, NC. Students worked in small teams to create a presentation to share with company executives at the end of the weekend. In addition to work in small teams, Professor Friga led students through a variety of in-class exercises to aide in preparation for their presentations.
Paul Friga Clinical Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship
Steve Beisser Faculty Advisor - STAR Program
Networking and Local Outings
In addition to the academic component of the immersion, students had the opportunity to explore the town of Chapel Hill and engage in social events outside of the classroom.
