B-School deans unite at the White House.

White House senior advisors invited UNC Kenan-Flagler Dean Douglas A. Shackelford as part of a small group of deans from leading U.S. business schools to discuss best practices for the 21st century workplace.

The April 16 roundtable was part of a lead up to the White House Summit on Working Families, which seeks to identify best practices for developing “workplaces that work for all Americans and better meet the needs of women and working families.” That goal, according to the White House blog, could not “be achieved without thinking of the business leaders of tomorrow” and led to the roundtable with a “group of deans from our nation’s leading business schools to discuss best practices for business schools that can better prepare their students for the increasing importance of women in the labor force and the prevalence of employees with families where all parents work.”

In addition to key workplace issues, they examined leadership, retention rates, business school culture and the timing of business school in the lifecycle. The White House will compile best practices that will then be signed on to by a larger group of business schools and will contribute to the larger goal of the White House Summit on Working Families.
