Shawnice Meador
Director of Career Management & Leadership Development — MBA@UNC
Shawnice Meador has more than fourteen years of progressive corporate and higher education experience, including leadership roles in career management, leadership development, strategic talent management, process improvement and engineering.
In 2012, Shawnice joined the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School as the director of career management and leadership development — MBA@UNC. In this role, she designs and leads all programmatic and consultative career management and leadership development services for the MBA@UNC student population of more than 320 experienced working professionals. As a member of the MBA@UNC leadership team for the newest Kenan-Flagler MBA program, Meador combines her strategic corporate leadership experience, her analytical consultative approach and her personal MBA student experiences to help others succeed professionally.
Before joining Kenan-Flagler, Shawnice was the director of talent management for Progress Energy Corporation. In this role she led corporate-wide recruiting, employee and leadership development, succession planning, workforce strategy and change management training. She also helped create and implement processes to increase and retain diversity representation across the company. Shawnice spent almost a decade in various human resources and technical services roles with Progress Energy and its predecessor companies after four years with General Electric, including time in one of GE’s engineering leadership development programs. During her undergraduate studies, she held various engineering internships with General Motors.
Shawnice has been featured as a career and leadership expert in numerous publications, including Forbes.com, Diversity Executive, SHRM, and Little Pink Book.
Meador earned her B.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan, and earned her MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business Weekend Executive Program. Shawnice will receive her Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) Certification in April 2013.
